  • HPL is used to identify syncytiotrophoblastic cells of choriocarcinoma
  • HPL is positive in placental site trophoblastic tumors (these tumors can also be focally positive for bHCG)
  • HPL will also stain placental site nodules
  • HPL can identify the implantation site throughout gestation
