  • All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

The primary use for this antibody is in identifying the calcitonin production in thyroid (c-cell hyperplasia and medullary carcinoma) as well by other tumors

Tissue

Submit a formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block

Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue block

FFPE tissue section mounted on a charged, unstained slide

Ambient (preferred)

  • Unlabeled/mislabeled block
  • Insufficient tissue
  • Slides broken beyond repair

AHL - Immunohistochemistry

1 - 2 days

Immunohistochemical staining and microscopic examination

If requested, an interpretive report will be provided

Specifications

  • Calcitonin secretion occurs in normal and neoplastic thyroid, and results in hypocalcemic actions on bone and kidney
  • Calcitonin secretion is usually associated with medullary carcinoma of the thyroid, as well as in C-cell hyperplasia
  • The identification of calcitonin production in c-cell hyperplasia is useful in recognizing familial forms of this disease
  • Calcitonin secretion has also been demonstrated in thymic carcinoids, as well as in breast and lung cancers (such as small cell carcinomas)

 Staining patterns

  • Cytoplasmic based granular activity
