  • All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue
  
  • Parvovirus is responsible for up to 10% of all non-malformed fetal deaths occurring between 10 and 24 weeks of gestation.1
  • Fetuses dying of this infection may or may not be hydropic. Antibody usefulness has been documented even in cases of extreme autolysis
  • Parvovirus B19 can infect and lyse erythroid precursors causing severe anemia in patients with immunodeficiency and transient aplastic crisis in patients with chronic hemolytic anemia2
  • Characteristic nuclear inclusions (Lantern cells) can be difficult to visualize
  • Parvovirus B19 has been implicated in certain viral exanthems including Fifths disease (erythema infectiosum) and papular purpuric gloves and socks syndrome (PPGSS). Staining can be demonstrated in infected dermal endothelial cells, keratinocytes and sweat glands3
  • Parvovirus B19 has been reported to cause hemophagocytic syndrome and lymph node changes resembling histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (Kikuchi's disease)
