Sodium citrate (Na cit) whole blood and

Na Citrate (Na cit) whole blood - 9 mL
EDTA whole blood - 5 mL
  
  • Draw with a 21G needle
  • It is best if the specimen is collected at a testing facility (Central, Mercy or United), but if not, sample must be placed in a STAT bag and STAT couriered to the closest testing facility.

Na Citrate Tube Filling Guidelines

  • Immediately following collection, mix sample thoroughly by gently inverting 8 - 10 times to prevent clotting
  
  • DO NOT SPIN; Submit entire tube(s), unspun
  • Sample must arrive at the testing facility within 3 hours of collection.

Hospital Draw - hand deliver to Lab; do not send thru Pneumatic Tube System (PTS).
