  • All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

  • Most (90%) mantle cell lymphomas are SOX11 positive (even when t(11;14) translocation and cyclin D1 are not detected) and most mimics are SOX11 negative
  • Sox11 identifies the 2% of mantle cell lymphomas that lack Bcl-1/cyclinD1/CCND1 IP staining and standard t(11;14) FISH
  • 10% of mantle cell lymphomas are SOX11 negative, and these cases tend to present more frequently with non-nodal leukemic disease and have a more indolent course
  • SOX11 should be ordered with Bcl-1/cyclin D1
  • This antibody can be used to differentiate blastoid MCL from CD5-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). However, note that rare (2 of 43 in one series) DLBCL showed weak nuclear SOX-11 expression
  • SOX11 expression occasionally can be seen in occasional examples of other lymphoid malignancies, including Burkitt lymphoma (BL), acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (ALL/LBL), T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia, marginal zone lymphoma, and anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALK-negative)
  • CLL/SLL may have proliferation centers that express bcl-1/cyclin D1, but these cells do not have t(11;14) and lack SOX11
  • SOX11 expression has also been shown to be a favorable prognostic marker in glioblastoma.

Specifications

  • SOX11 antibody (SRY (Sex Determining Region Y)-Box 11) is a member of the SOX family of transcription factors, involved in the regulation of embryonic development and in the determination of cell fate
  • SOX11 is expressed in most mantle cell lymphomas, including cyclin D1 negative cases

 Staining pattern

  • Nuclear staining
