Specifically identifies types HPV 16 and HPV 18 while concurrently detecting the rest of the high-risk types: 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, and 68, without further specific differentiation.

  
Anal/rectal swab
  
  
An anal-rectal cytology specimen is collected using a Dacron swab.
  1. Moisten the swab in tap water and insert as far as possible into the anal canal.
  2. Slowly rotate the swab in one direction with gentle pressure on the walls as the swab is slowly being withdrawn.
    1. Care should be taken to ensure the transition zone is sampled.
  3. Vigorously rotate the swab in the PreservCyt® solution 10 times while pushing against the wall of the ThinPrep® vial.
  4. Swirl the swab vigorously to release additional material.
  5. Discard the swab.
  6. Tighten the cap on the ThinPrep® container so that the torque line on the cap passes the torque line on the vial.
